You find installation instructions in every third package of floor boards. Here you can see how to install your floor step by step.
Installation:
Before you start, the subfloor must be level, sound, dry and clean. The temperature must be a least 18°C. The relative air humidity must lie between 30 and 60 per cent before, during and after installation – use a hygrometer to check this. If the relative air humidity is lower or higher the right climate should be achieved by humidifying or dehumidifying. This also goes for the room in which you store the packages. The packages must not be opened until immediately before installation.
Underlay material:
In a floating installation you should use an underlay material to obtain an even surface and to reduce the sound of footsteps. Use an underlay with long durability. A wooden floor is hard, so it is important to install a shock-absorbing underlay. Our Tarkofoam, Cellfoam, Tarkoflex, Tuplex and Tarkoflex Light are designed with this purpose in mind.
Remember damp proof membrane:
To protect against rising moisture you should always cover the entire subfloor with a damp proof membrane. A damp proof membrane is a 0.2mm thick polythene sheeting with long durability. The damp proof membrane is laid with an overlap of at least 200mm or sealed with tape. Tarkett's Tarkoflex and Tarkoflex Light combine underlay and damp proof membrane in one solution.
Floating installation:
You can install your new wooden floor directly on the old floor, no matter if it is a wooden floor or a vinyl floor. If you choose the Ultraloc profile, you will need a hand saw and a tapping block. Combiloc does not require any tools except for a hand saw. Ultraloc and Combiloc have a maximum installation area of 12x20 m. Contact your dealer for advice and instructions .
Gluing to the subfloor:
If you install more than 250m2, you cannot use a floating installation, but need to glue the floor to the subfloor. This also applies to more complicated assignments like installing a design floor. Please see separate installation instructions for gluing to the underlay.
Floor heating:
The heating system must be a water-borne or self-limiting electrical heating system that provides an even heat over the whole area of the floor. The surface temperature of the installed floor must not exceed 27°C. Floor heating is an option for all thicknesses. Floor heating may cause movement and slits in the floor. Beech and maple move more than other species and are not recommended. When installing over a floor heating system the boards must always be installed along the length of the room and there must be an expansion gap at thresholds, i.e. no contact is allowed between boards in separate rooms. Larger floors must be installed with expansion gaps. Ask your dealer for advice.
In order for you to be satisfied and able to enjoy your new wooden floor from the start, Tarkett has developed useful equipment to make the installation easy and painless for you.
